July 24th, 2009
After some logistical details, the fall story winner for grades K-3 is finally ready to make public. This story was written by Karly, 7 years old, Sierra Vista, La Habra, 3rd Grade. We'll post it on the winner's page soon but I wanted to let you know as soon as I can! Also, a bunch of my friends made Stinky Alvin out of balloons. Stinky Alvin
Last Sunday night, I found a mad scientist furry monster in my shallow swimming pool. First, I heard a splashing sound in my cold swimming pool. I went to the pool with my flashlight to see what was going on. Next, I saw bulging eyes looking at me and I caught him with my Dad's fishing net. He was trapped in the net, so I put him in a glass jar. He ate the cheese in one bite.
I named my monster Stinky Alvin. I named him Alvin because I thought it would be a cool name. I fed him salty nuts and crunchy walnuts and cashews too. He ate all of them because his favorites are nuts.
When I wasn't looking my little sister let stinky Alvin out of the jar and I couldn't find him. I was mad! I looked everywhere. I saw my neighbor's dog chasing him down the street. The dog was getting closer to Stinky Alvin, so I jumped on my scooter and grabbed some nuts and cheese. I chased after them down the street on my scooter. The dog was barking at Stinky Alvin and I threw the dog a dog treat and he went up a tree. I put the nuts down and he came out of the tree to eat the nuts, but I didn't have the fishing net, so I put him in my scooter helmet. He was calming down. I had to get him back to the glass jar for safe keeping.
When we got home I told my little sister to never let Stinky Alvin out of the jar. Stinky Alvin was safely back in his jar and my Dad cleaned up the swimming pool and now Stinky Alvin is part of the family. He sleeps in the jar and swims with us in the pool and we are the only ones who have a mad scientist furry monster who lives with us.
